They are safe and fun and are the most inexpensive way to move around. Taxis are also available but remember to negotiate the price before boarding. Water: We are sure you have been warned many times before not to drink the water in Mexico, but that is just a myth, in fact in Cancun all hotels have purified water system. Medical Care: There are several hospitals with English speaking staff, doctors in all speciaties, high-tech equipment, x-rays, pharmacy, laboratories, coffee shop, etc. They are located in downtown and are available 24 hours daily. In some hotels there are doctors available within the property or on call. Money: Banks offer the best exchange rates if you have some extra time to stand in line, otherwise you can go to any exchange bureau (Casa de cambio ) they usually give you a n exchange rate slightly higher than the banks but are faster and easier. US dollar, traveler's checks and major credit cards are widely accepted in Cancun. Telephone: The best options to make a long distance phone call to the U.S. is from a public telephone called TELMEX. You may also purchase a calling card where you see the sign "Tarjetas Ladatel". A $10 usd card will give you approximately 5-7 minutes to talk. Also there are several long distances offices, both in the hotel zone and downtown. Look for a "Larga Distancia" (long distance) sign. Most hotels offer long distance service through their switchboards, however this method can be quite costly. Double check the hotel the rate before making a phone call from your room. If someone needs to call you from the U.S. tell them to dial (011)(52)+ (988) for Cancun and (011)(52) + 984 for Riviera Maya + the 7 digit local phone number in both cases. |
